The Brief
Twelve new classrooms, associated facilities and reception area were built in a limited space and integrated to complement the existing building.
After winning the competitive 'design and build' tender we worked closely with the school and their consultants to identify further economies to enable the budget to be met.

The Brief
Using Kentish vernacular design we have designed and built a multipurpose hall which replaces a post-war Horsa hut. The new hall is designed to blend into its rural setting and we have used Redwood cladding from a renewable source which empathises with the other school building which is of Victorian style.
The new hall was opened by the Mayor of Maidstone and the children sealed a time capsule into one of the walls for posterity. The capsule contained school uniform, drawings, photographs and stories collated by the children.

| Marlborough House School |
 |
The Brief
Marlborough House School needed a sports and multipurpose hall for their growing pupil numbers, and for a much needed improvement in facilities.
The building had to provide a large clear space, while presenting a traditional appearance. This was achieved by using a steel construction with brick, timber weatherboard and roof tiles externally. |

The Brief
This project presented particular challenges. The site was down a steep track which was surrounded by woodland, a swimming pool was situated nearby and there was a 2 metre fall across the building.
Based on our considerable knowledge of steel buildings we were able to suggest building on steel
stilts, a solution previous consultants working on the project had not considered.
By modifying some of the cosmetic features and minor aspects of the geometry we were able to meet
the clients budget and exceed expectations. |

The Brief
A 1,000 sq m sports hall, including 300 sq m of accommodation and changing facilities and viewing gallery.
This project was won in competitive tender based on preliminary specification provided. In close co-operation with the school and their consultants, the details were improved as well as establishing savings to the budget.
The sports hall accommodates sports to County standards, providing four badminton courts or netball.
To achieve County standards the hall is extra large and high compared to normal halls.
The contract included all detailed design, through to fitting out of changing rooms, and the supply of fixed sports equipment. |
| South Kent College - Vistor and Training Center |
 |
The Brief
This was a collaborative project consisting of two buildings, a visitor centre and training facility. The visitor centre was particularly sensitive as it involved replacing an existing Victorian brick building. Our brief was to ensure that this new building was in the spirit of the old and whilst offering the benefits of a contemporary structure retained the feel of its predecessor. This was achieved with the use of wood and tile cladding over the steel framed structure.
The training centre was also a challenging building as it had to be built over the existing building to enable the centre to remain in operation. We succeeded with this and met all of the health and safety issues which arose.
Both buildings achieve a good balance between aesthetics and ‘buildability’ and are in frequent use today. |
